Pic&Pac Concepts and Components
Pooling
Pooling is the process of creating a collection of items to pick and
pack. These Pools can be based on an order, a combination of orders for
one customer or any combination of specific items across orders. The process
of creating a Pool is driven by a user-defined list of seven different
selection criteria such as:
- Ship Via - trying to get all the courier orders out first.
- Territory - Create picking slips for "Route" environments.
- Order/Expected Dates - meeting customer shipping windows.
- Customer/Ship To - combining multiple orders to same customer and/or
destination.
- Specific Item Range - to ship a large backorder or bulk item delivery
across multiple orders.
- and more...
These Pools can be used to produce Advanced Picking Slips, through Quik
Reports, in order to optimize warehouse picking efficiency. For example,
using wave and/or zone picking can greatly reduce wasted warehouse traffic.
See Figure 1 for an example.
Packing
Pic&Pac enables businesses to identify detailed package content,
which is an integral part of the EDI process. The Packing function assigns
item(s) to a unique Package ID number. Packing is designed to handle everything
from a simple to a demanding packing environment, using fast, easy, error
free procedures.
Packing can be accomplished in three different ways:
- via the keyboard, where the user enters or selects items from a list
- using a bar code scanner attached to
a PC, eliminating data entry errors
- using the AutoPac feature, which assigns items to packages based on
a user-defined quantity
See Figure 2 for an example.
The Packing process when combined with:
- PBT Pro can generate carton specific labels, using the latest technology
in thermal transfer printers
- Quik Reports can generate carton specific packing lists.
Shipping
The Shipping function assigns a unique Shipment ID to selected packages.
Additional information such as the carrier ID or truck number can be assigned
to the shipment. The resulting shipment information can be used produce
summary and detail packing slips, complex shipping documentation and EDI
Advance Shipment Notices.
See Figure 3 for an example.
OE Ship Quantity Update
Pic&Pac provides the user with the ability of automatically update
OE shipped quantities based on packed quantities, thus eliminating costly
data entry errors and dramatically reducing order cycle time.
This function also gathers important statistical data allowing business
managers to produce comprehensive packing, service level and fill rate
reports.
