The MJD Nexus
is a suite of applications that allows transactions processing to
take place between a Host System running on a PC (i.e Sage Accpac ERP)
and MJD portable application running on hand-held terminals, in an efficient,
robust and automated manner. It is the center that controls transaction
flow and allows the decision maker in a warehouse to focus on specific
events and situations. The Nexus is made up of three software programs:
NexusServer, Q
Browser and Director. The NexusServer is the link between the hand-held terminal(s)
and the Transaction Queue (TxQ). The NexusServer sends data and applications
to and from mobile devices via an IP address. Because it uses IP addressing
it can use a number of different methods to communicate with the mobile
devices. Programs, data and transcations can transferered via either a
USB or serial cable, wirelessly using an internal WAN or wireless externally
using a GPRS connection using a mobile device that has wireless data support.
The NexusServer displays an on screen activity log.
The Q Browser allows the user to maintain the TxQ. The Q Browser has a user definable screen layout, which can be saved. Multiple Q Browsers can be configured to display different views of the TxQ. The Q Browser is the application that will allow a user to schedule and correct queue transactions. This function is the most important day to day use of the MJD Nexux and makes it an important decision tool in any operational environment. Transactions sent to the TxQ are automatically archived to prevent data loss and can be restored using the "restore from archive" feature in the Q Browser. This feature makes the MJD Nexus robust in that it allows the user to easily recover from mistakes/errors in transaction processing. The Q Browser allows the user to manage transaction flow by prioritizing and scheduling specific transactions or groups of transactions.
The Director automates file management procedures such as moving and/or renaming files to and from the TxQ. The Director watches for new files which represent transactions to move into the TxQ and watches the TxQ for transactions that are ready to be passed on to the host system for processing.
